Therapy Underground

Subversive online therapy for neurodivergent minds

Jason Schaefer, MA, Professional Counselor Associate

About Me

I’m Jason Schaefer—Jace, if you’d rather.

I’m a late-identified neurodivergent therapist. I work best with people who’ve felt like outsiders their whole lives—people who mask, mimic, over-adapt, or shut down just to get through the day. I see therapy as a place where we stop doing that. Where we let the armor fall off, just a little, and finally ask: what would it mean to stop performing?

What I Bring to the Work

I’m trained in depth psychology, grounded in psychodynamic theory, and shaped by resistance. My approach is gentle, relational, and unapologetically neurodivergent-affirming. I don’t use worksheets. I don’t treat you like a broken algorithm. I listen. I reflect. I show up.

We’ll explore what’s underneath the patterns you’re tired of repeating—without trying to fix you into something more palatable.

This Site Looks Different. That’s on Purpose.

Everything here is designed with neurodivergent folks in mind. The dark theme protects light-sensitive eyes. The font is OpenDyslexic—a typeface built to reduce visual distortion. If you’ve bounced off a dozen bright white therapy sites with soft lighting and sterile smiles, you’re not alone. This space is for you.

A Note on Access & Open Card

I accept Oregon Health Plan (OHP) clients, but only those on Open Card—not through coordinated care organizations like CareOregon or PacificSource. If you’re not sure what kind of coverage you have, reach out and I’ll help you figure it out. Click here for more about fees and insurance.
